Conference Venue and Accommodation
Conference Venue
The conference will take place at the School of Economics and Business at the Universidad de Chile. The school is located 500mts south of O’Higgins Avenue (main street) in downtown Santiago. More precisely, the address is Diagonal Paraguay 205/257, Santiago, Chile. If you search for that address in GoogleMap you will get the picture included below.
Hotels Information
If you are a foreign visitor to Chile then you are entitled to full VAT exemption for accommodation. You do not need to pay 19% tax in the hotel provided you: 1) show your passport to the hotel cashier, 2) pay your expenses with cash, in US currency. Therefore, it is a good idea to bring US bills, even if you do not use that currency in your country. You can also change some currencies to US dollars or Chilean pesos at “Casas de Cambio” in downtown Santiago. The Casas de Cambio typically accept Euros, British pounds, Australian dollars, Canadian dollars, Japanese yens, Argentinian pesos and Brazilian reais.
We recommend hotels listed below that are located near the conference venue. There are many restaurants and cafes nearby (Lastarria street, and crossing the river, Bellavista neighborhood).
Hotel Cumbres Lastarria (distance to School 0.9 kms)
The Singular Santiago (distance to School 1 km)
Hotel Ismael (distance to School 1.3 kms)
Crowne Plaza Santiago (distance to School 0.95 kms)
Hotel Plaza San Francisco (distance to School 1.2 kms)
Getting to Santiago
There are direct flights to the international airport of Santiago “Arturo Merino Benitez” from several cities in the world: Frankfut, Madrid, Paris, London, Rome, Sydney, Auckland, Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas, Atlanta and New York.
Upon arrival, you have several option to get to downtown:
- Taxi about US$35
- Transfer about US$20
- Bus about US$7
Please check with your hotel for courtesy pick-up
The official currency is the Chilean peso. You can exchange money at the airport, in hotels, banks and “casas de cambio” (the latter may be the most convenient, but do get some pesos at the airport to pay initial expenses).
Please check locally or at the Chilean Foreign Ministry web page if you need to have a visa to travel to Chile. Also, when entering the Santiago airport, residents from a few countries not requiring a visa will be asked to pay a “reciprocity fee”. Those countries are the ones charging Chilean residents to pay for a visa when visiting them.
